The Homestretch

An Alberta couple convicted in the meningitis death of their son...will get a new trial. In 2016, a Lethbridge jury found David and Collet Stephan guilty of failing to provide the necessaries of life for their 18-month-old son. Ezekiel died of bacterial meningitis. His parents treated him with herbal remedies and did not call an ambulance until he stopped breathing. The Supreme Court of Canada ordered a new trial today. Lisa Silver is a criminal law professor at the University of Calgary who has been following the case. She joined Doug Dirks in studio.
