Landlords convert apartments into "rooming houses," to potentially dangerous results

Sunday's fire in Côte-des-Neiges is drawing attention to what community organizers say is a larger problem in the borough: the growing number of apartments converted into rooming houses, sometimes done without a permit, not meeting code, substandard and unsafe. We speak to James McKinnon, who lives in the building that caught fire, and Annie Lapalme, a community organizer for the group OEIL Cote Des Neiges.
