Fredericton Police Force Boosting French Language Skills

Information Morning - Fredericton

Last June, two Fredericton Police officers pulled over a vehicle on Smythe Street. The driver asked to be served in French, which is her right. Neither of the two officers could speak French, and a third officer who could speak French had to be called. That incident led to the force being investigated by the New Brunswick Police Commission, which found that two of the officers didn't comply with the province's Official Languages Act. Now the force is looking to beef up their French proficiency. Deputy Chief of the Fredericton Police Force Martin Gaudet joined Terry Seguin in studio.
