Ottawa is scrapping the National Energy Board and replacing it with a new body called the Canadian Energy Regulator. But the regulator won't be carrying out reviews of proposed energy projects in Canada. That will fall to something called the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada, which is being tasked with assessing not just the environmental considerations around a project, but health, social, economic and any potential impact on indigenous peoples. This new protocal is supposed restore trust to the process and provide more certainty to industy. The federal minister of natural resources rolled the details of this legislation out in Calgary today. Jim Carr joined host Rob Brown on the line.
