In the summer of 1972, Bernard Andreason, Dennis Dick, and Jack Elanik ran away from Inuvik, N.W.T.'s Stringer Hall residential school, hoping to make the 137-km trek to Tuktoyaktuk. Andreason was the only survivor. Here, he speaks about leaving Elanik behind during his journey.
