The Drum: Heartbeat of Mother Earth or rhythm of a stereotype?

Episode 6 for August 4th & 7th, 2010: It’s the beat of a people. But, do we really need to hear it every time there’s a story about Native people? And, just what is Native music? Most music award events have a specific category for “Aboriginal”, but how do you define it? We’ll sample the range, talk with some of the prominent creators and discover the heartbeat of Aboriginal rhythms. Our question: Does it have a good beat, and can you Sundance to it?

And, what are the odds that someone from an isolated reserve in the northern edges of our provinces will be able to survive the strain of re-locating to the busy, populated and white South. Why are rez schools so bad; they get all kinds of our tax dollars, right? Again, afraid not. On a per student basis, the average rez school gets about half of what non-rez schools get, and they've got expenses that would never trouble an urban-Canadian school. RVQ asks Are The Kids Alright?
