Istanbul's Carnival revival with Meghan MacIver - Apr. 5/2012
Meghan MacIver takes us inside the revival of Carnival, originally a Christian religious festival, in the mostly Muslim city of Istanbul Turkey. The Greeks used to celebrate Carnival there, until relations between Greeks and Turks deteriorated and the festival was shut down in the 1940s. Now some people from both communities are trying to revive it...and bring about cultural understanding in a city where that is sometimes lacking.
