Pastor well-known in Cree Nation dies in road accident
An Ontario pastor well-known in Eyou Istchee has died following a car crash on a New York state highway. Ross Maracle of Desronto, Ontario died late Tuesday night. August 21. The 66 year-old was in the passenger seat of a truck, when the driver loss control driving northbound on Interstate 81, in the town of Pamelia. The truck hit a guardrail and flipped over, ejecting Maracle. He was flown by air ambulance to a hospital in Syracuse - about 110 kilometres away - where he died from his injuries. Cree communities from Waskaganish, Mistissini and Nemaska knew Maracle from the early 1980's. Simeon Trapper is from Waskaganish, he is one of them who knew him very well.
