    As a boy in pre-war Austria, Georg Tintner played the piano, sang with the Vienna Boys Choir, and composed his own music. By the time World War Two broke out, he was also a conductor. But Georg Tintner was a conductor with Jewish roots. And so, after the Anschluss in 1938, he was fired. By 1942, Mr. Tintner made his way to New Zealand, and for the better part of the next forty-five years of his life, he served as a conductor across New Zealand, Australia and South Africa. But in 1987, he moved to Halifax, where he would leave his mark as the conductor of Symphony Nova Scotia. He died in Halifax on October 2, 1999.

Since mid-January, a growing group of Cree youth has been walking in support of Idle No More. The original idea was to deepen their links to the culture and the environment. But as Melissa Natachequan found out, the walk is inspiring and healing many along the way.

It's called the Roundtable on Cree Capacity Building and organizers hope it will help Cree people better understand all the jobs available to them with the right education. Cree negotiator Abel Bosum says right now about half of the Crees who get a post-secondary education settle outside the territory and the Grand Council wants to change that. He spoke to Joshua Loon about the Roundtable.

The "Keeping the Promise" Conference brought together more than 300 First Nations and Inuit leaders, government representatives, academics, industry people and others from February 26 to March 1. They hope to lay the foundation for a modern treaty implementation policy and create an annual "report card" to evaluate how well the government is doing with regard to treaty implementation. As the nation that signed the first modern treaty back in the 1970's, Cree Grand Chief Matthew Coon Come was one of the keynote speakers at the event. Joshua Loon spoke with him.
