Statistically,drivers aged 80-plus almost have the accident rate of the most dangerous driving demographic ... the under 24s.     As a boy in pre-war Austria, Georg Tintner played the piano, sang with the Vienna Boys Choir, and composed his own music. By the time World War Two broke out, he was also a conductor. But Georg Tintner was a conductor with Jewish roots. And so, after the Anschluss in 1938, he was fired. By 1942, Mr. Tintner made his way to New Zealand, and for the better part of the next forty-five years of his life, he served as a conductor across New Zealand, Australia and South Africa. But in 1987, he moved to Halifax, where he would leave his mark as the conductor of Symphony Nova Scotia. He died in Halifax on October 2, 1999.

An assembly was held for Pink Shirt Day. Thirty-four percent of grade 6 and 7 students admit to being bullied over the last months at the school. But the goal is to reduce that to zero. Students watched videos and presentations about bullying, as well as listened to a speech by fellow student Abigail Blackmore. Labrador Morning's John Gaudi dropped by to find out more.

The provincial government has hired a firm to do a medical audit of two thousand past and present workers. The union is applauding the move, and so is the Iron Ore Company of Canada. The Manager of external relations for IOC , Heather Bruce-Veitch. and...Frank Murphy worked for the Iron ore company of Canada for thirty five years. He and his wife Claire, a retired nurse, now live in Clarkes Beach. Frank is a quiet man, who now suffers the consequences of working in a dusty environment. His wife Claire, on the other hand, is very vocal on the issue of dust in the workplace. Mike Power speaks with Heather Bruce-Veitch and Claire murphy about this new medical audit by the province.
