Burton Winters - a year Latrer
Tuesday marks a tragic anniversary in Makkovik. It will be one-year since 14-year-old Burton Winters disappeared on his snowmobile. His body was recovered three days later on sea ice. People in the community immediately launched a ground search for Winters, but search and rescue help from the military was hampered by bad weather, mechanical issues, and policy. As a result, the Winter's tragedy became the centre of a public debate about search and rescue in this province. Now, a year later, people in the community are still fighting for improvements to search and rescue, but they're also bracing themselves for a painful anniversary. Here is a preview of an item we'll bring you on Tuesday's Labrador Morning.
