Gilbert Bay Steering Committee

Coastal Shipping pleaded guilty to spilling 70 litres of diesel near William's Harbour. The area called Gilbert Lake is a Marine Protected Area and is home to a unique fish species called the golden cod. The shipping company was fined $100,000 and $50,000 of it goes straight to the marine protected area. The Gilbert Lake Steering Committee met earlier this week for the annual general meeting and to discuss where the money will go. Margaret Burden is the Co-chair of that committee and she joins us on the line now from Port Hope Simpson.
