Satellite Ice Monitoring
Many people in Labrador depend on the bay or harbour freezing over so they can use it as an ice highway. But it hasn't been cold enough for the ice to form up as it should and venturing out can be extremely risky. A pilot project in North West River is helping to reduce that risk It uses satellite imagery to monitor just how thick the ice is in Lake Melville. Ed Tuttauk is the Chairperson of the Sivunivut Inuit Community Corporation in North West River. Labrador Morning's John Gaudi spoke with him about how it works.
