Waiting for Status
Tens of thousands of people in this province still don't know if they'll get aboriginal status. They applied for membership in the Qalipu Mi'kmaq First Nation Band, before the deadline of November 30th. But, now, they're being told that the review of applications was supposed to end on December 30th. So people are wondering where that stack of unreviewed applications is going to end up. Hector Pearce of Lewisporte applied for status with the Qalipu First Nation Band. But he's concerned his application won't be looked at. He's written to the Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development to express his concerns.
