The State of Democracy
Late yesterday, the federal conservatives passed their second omnibus budget bill in the last year. Like the first controversial bill, this one contains changes to dozens of laws and is hundreds of pages long. The conservatives limited the amount of time MPs would have to debate this one. All of that has Canadians thinking about the state of democracy in the country. Samara, a charitable organization devoted to promoting political participation, asked people across the nation how they feel about what's happening in Ottawa. The resulting report reveals some very interesting numbers. Allison Loat is the executive director of Samara.
