No Plan Insight for the Forest Industry
Earlier this week we told you about a proposed deal to make wood pellets in Grand Falls-Windsor and how the government rejected it. The plan would have used the Abitibi-Bowater mill site as well as the port of Botwood and some of the wood supply available in Central. Natural Resources minister Jerome Kennedy nixed the deal because the company, York Energy, was asking for more than eight million dollars. Also, Kennedy says, there's another proposal on the table for that property. As it stands now, however, it's been nearly four years since the government expropriated Abitibi's assets and people in the industry have seen little benefit. John Baird is a forestry consultant in Glovertown.
