Now, to a CBC investigation. It involves the controversy seven months ago when federal cuts led to marine medical calls from Newfoundland and Labrador being sent to Italy. Documents obtained by CBC News indicate local coast guard officials had come up with a plan to deal with such emergencies locally, but military officials in Halifax quashed that - and as a result people needing medical assistance at sea, had to call Italy.
