Boyde Beck - The Life of John MacGregor
Historian Boyde Beck introduces us to a former Covehead resident. His name was John MacGregor and he was six when his family moved here from Scotland in 1806. He cut his political teeth as sheriff and MLA here in the 1820s, then decided to return to the big lights of Great Britain. When he got tired of being a businessman, he became a political economist and trade advisor. He negotiated some trade deals between Britain and countries on the continent and was one of the main forces behind getting the country's switch to a free trade policy.
