Raising Awareness About CNIB's Three Canes
You've probably seen blind or partially sighted people using white canes. But did you know CNIB offers three different types of canes? If you didn't know, you're not alone. That's why the CNIB is trying to raise awareness about the three canes. The CNIB says every day, Islanders with vision loss face challenges because people don't know what their canes represent. The thickest is a support cane for people with vision impairment who also need to lean on it. The thinnest is an identification cane that lets others know the owner has some vision impairment. And the third... middle-thickness cane... is the one used by most people with definite vision problems. Island Morning's Pat Martel invited three Islanders to tell us about the one they use.
