Changes To Regulations For Medical Marijuana
The Federal government is looking to regulate who sells medical marijuana in Canada. Right now, patients can grow their own marijuana, buy from a designated grower OR from Health Canada. But the Government is proposing to allow only commercially-regulated growers to sell the plant. On average, patients pay about 2 dollars a gram.... it's estimated the price will increase to about 7-8 dollars. The new regulations place greater responsibility on doctors to prescribe medical marijuana, with Health Canada take a lesser role. Kat Murphy from Charlottetown has been using medical marijuana for a few years. She has Crohn's disease and a number of other ailments. Island Morning's Julia Cook spoke with Kat Murphy about her experiences with medical marijuana...and what she thinks of these proposed changes that are scheduled to come into effect next year.
