Abortion Rights on PEI - Marc Babin - Part 2
In the last half hour we heard from an woman who had an abortion at the Morgentaler clinic back when she was a teenaged mom. Justine -- not her real name -- told us how difficult it was then to find any information about the procedure... and how protesters shouted at her when she showed up at the Morgentaler clinic. Today marks the 25th anniversary of the Supreme Court of Canada decision that overturned the criminal abortion law. But Prince Edward Island still remains the only place where women must travel out of province to obtain an abortion - either at the Morgentaler Clinic in Fredericton - or at the QE 2 in Halifax. The provincial government will only pay for hospital abortions, with a doctor's referral. Our Radio-Canada colleague Marc Babin now brings us the second part of his interview with Justine... who tells us about her second abortion... this one performed here on PEI.
