    As a boy in pre-war Austria, Georg Tintner played the piano, sang with the Vienna Boys Choir, and composed his own music. By the time World War Two broke out, he was also a conductor. But Georg Tintner was a conductor with Jewish roots. And so, after the Anschluss in 1938, he was fired. By 1942, Mr. Tintner made his way to New Zealand, and for the better part of the next forty-five years of his life, he served as a conductor across New Zealand, Australia and South Africa. But in 1987, he moved to Halifax, where he would leave his mark as the conductor of Symphony Nova Scotia. He died in Halifax on October 2, 1999.

Arts 902 One of Halifax's finest flamenco groups " Compania Azul " premieres their new show this weekend Jun 21, 2012 | 3:02The Halifax Flamenco ensemble " Compania Azul " is presenting a new show on Sat. June 23rd at 8pm. Its happening in the Sir James Dunn Theatre at the Dal Arts Centre. The program will feature new Flamenco works that were created by members of the group. The Nova Scotian company plans to take their new show to Western Canada. They'll be performing with the Victoria Symphony Orchestra in November, and the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra in January of next year. Her new exhibit is called " Right Place, Right Time " and it contains images Cameron captured while travelling across Canada and the United States. The work of the Cape Breton photographer will remain on display at the Corridor Gallery until June 28th. The gallery is inside the Visual Arts Nova Scotia or VANS office. That's at 1113 Marginal Road in Halifax. The gallery is open Monday through Friday from 9 until 5.

He wrote the play in 1907, and since then it has been produced on stages around the world. Its the story of Raymonde, who suspects her husband Victor, of infidelity. She turns to her best friend to help her gain proof, and they concoct a scheme to trap him at the Hotel Coq d'Or. The plan fails and mayhem ensues. It will feature one of the masterpieces of the 20th century, " The Rite of Spring ", by Igor Stravinsky. The 103 piece orchestra will be conducted by Bernhard Gueller, Music Director of Symphony Nova Scotia. Also on the program, the Brahms Double Concerto, with violinist Giora Schmidt and cellist Joshua Roman. Arts 902 The Atlantic Ballet Theatre of Canada is bringing " Ghosts of Violence " to Halifax May 2, 2012 | 2:32Moncton's Atlantic Ballet Theatre of Canada is presenting its newest ballet in Halifax. " Ghosts of Violence " explores the issue of violence against women. Its been touring Canada playing to sold out houses and great reviews. Igor Dobrovolskiy is Artistic Director of the company and choreographer of the ballet. Collaborating with Canadian playwright Sharon Pollock, Dobrovolskiy produced a ballet that revolves around four couples. He says the issue of domestic homicide is multi-layered, and he wanted to reveal that in the ballet. Dobrovolskiy and Pollock created scenarios representing different ages, backgrounds and social classes. " Ghosts of Violence " will be staged at the Rebecca Cohn Auditorium on Saturday, May 5th at 7:30.
