Milk is still considered one of the basic staple foods, according to the Canada Food Guide. That's one of the reasons why its price is governed by provincial law. But be sure to check what your grocery is charging you for a litre of milk. The law sets the maximum price ... but some local stores are exceeding that by as much as 25 per cent.
