Chief of Chisasibi agrees home ownership is the way to go

The Chief of Chisasibi says he agrees with the Cree Regional Authority that one of the solutions to housing issues in Eyou Istchee is to convince more people to consider owning their own home. The CRA says there had been a problem with house shortage in Cree communities for many years. Joshua Loon spoke with Chisasibi Chief Davey Bobbish. In Chisasibi, there are 50 rent to own and 50 private homes right now, with 35 more still in the plans. The community gives more than $136 thousand in grants to all community members people but they have to qualify. For more information contact the Director of Housing in your community.
