Schizophrenia care comes into question
A Kamloops murder trial has once again shone the spotlight on how we care for the mentally ill.. Last week, 19 year old Joshua Steele was found not criminally responsible for killing his father. Joshua suffers with schizophrenia and depression. Before the murder he was in and out of hospital. His family says he did not t get the treatment he needed. They say despite their pleas, doctors kept sending him home. Sunny Hilderbrand has volunteered with the Kelowna Schizoprehia Society for more than 40 years. She now leads support groups and teaches classes for families with relatives who have mental health disorders. She joins us from Kelowna this morning.
