XL Foods: Brooks, Alberta Mayor

On Saturday, XL gave its entire workforce -- about two thousand people -- lay-off notices. Several hundred workers will return to the meat processing plant today, when XL restarts the line under the watch of federal inspectors. But no one knows yet when the slaughterhouse will reopen. Martin Shields is the mayor of Brooks.
