Haida Gwaii Geoengineering, pt2
Critics say the controversial dumping of a hundred tons of iron sulfate off the coast of Haida Gwaiit contravenes at least three international moratoria on dumping and geoengineering to which Canada is a signatory. However, the development corporation behind the project, which is funded by a village on Haida Gwaii, says the benefits are already apparent. The theory is that the introduction of the FeSO4 will serve to create a plankton bloom that will absorb CO2 from the atmosphere. John Disney is the president of the Haida Salmon Restoration Corporation and the economic development officer for the Old Massett Village Council. We reached him in Old Massett, BC.
