Bollywood and India's rape culture
This week, witnesses took the stand in Delhi at the trial of the five men accused of gang raping a young woman. She later died from her injuries. The brutal attack in December triggered demonstrations across the country and prompted Indian lawmakers to stiffen penalties for sexual assaults. Even Bollywood entered the fray, with stars taking to the streets to protest the treatment of women. But Mahesh Dattani, a celebrated playwright and filmmaker, thinks Bollywood should look in the mirror before speaking out on the question of rape.
