Day 6 | Jan 18, 2013 | 11:55
Are We The People petitions the junk food of democracy?
Until this week, any petition on the White House's "We The People" site that crossed a threshold of 25,000 within 30 days would earn a response from the administration. Hence these responses to impeaching the president, the secession of Texas, deporting Piers Morgan, and building a Death Star. This week, the admin bumped the threshold to 100,000 signatures. But are electronic petitions really effective, or do they create a false sense of connection with government? Jeff Jarvis and Michael Weinberg hash it out.
