Mars Mission Ends (Excerpt)
Six men returned to Earth today after an eighteen-month trip to Mars. Sort of. I say "sort of" because there are a couple of qualifications. Nothing major. Just that the six men never actually left planet Earth or landed on Mars. The "Mars mission" was actually a simulation -- an experiment that happened on terra firma in Russia. Christer Fuglesang heads the science and application division at the Directorate of Human Spaceflight and Operations at the European Space Agency. He helped monitor the men's progress during their non-journey. We reached him in Moscow, Russia.
