News Human Library Project: Reena Legarde, Thunder Bay Jan 16, 2013 | 2:34Well known for her leadership, and community involvement, Reena Legarde understands the challenges facing Aboriginal Youth. Reena is part of the Youth Advisory Committee of Thunder Bay's Urban Aboriginal Strategy. She's also involved in efforts to combat substance abuse and serves as chair of the regional chapter of Canadian Students for Sensible Drug Policy. Reena also works in the community with youth on probation.

Big changes are taking place at the shelter, where for the past four years, staff have been trained in yoga and meditation. The newest addition to the shelter is its new "snuggleroom' for children.

She suffered abuse as a child and began experiencing symptoms of mental illness as a teenager. At her lowest point Diana was suicidal. After the birth of her second child she decided to get help. She now heads a local organization dedicated to supporting people with mental illness.

She started using a scooter to make it from class to class in her job as a french teacher. She can also use canes or a wheelchair to get around. Donna-Lynn runs her own business as a french tutor, and still finds time to works as an advocate for people with disabilities.

He recently returned to his hometown of Thunder Bay; before he left, his name was Lea. Aiden is undergoing hormone treatment, and will eventually have surgery. He leads a support group for transgender people in Thunder Bay.
