Otherwise, increases are capped by rent control....this year, rents can't go up more than one per cent. But rent controls may in fact be hurting renters in Manitoba rather than helping them. Marcy talks to Avrom Charach, a spokesperson for the Professional Property Managers Association of Manitoba. They say rent increases are needed to prevent buildings from crumbling and unhappy tenants shouldn't point fingers at landlords and property owners.
