Winschgaoug Mistissini council responds to petition Feb 28, 2013 | 6:40The Community Wellness Department of Mistissini wants the Band Council to create full-time jobs for cell guards at their local police station. Jane Blacksmith is the director of community wellness. She says a revision of how people are detained at the police station is needed to keep everyone safe. The Mistissini band council discussed the petition on February 26 and decided to move forward with the suggestion. Joshua Loon spoke with Deputy Chief John S. Matoush.

Six youth, along with a guide and a trail-maker left the community heading to Chisasibi on January 16th. From there, they plan to continue all the way to Ottawa in support of Idle No More. Winschgaoug Grandmother left alone but supports Journey Jan 21, 2013 | 6:59Six men left Whapmagoostui on January 16th, heading through the bush on a 1500-km trek called the Journey of Nishiyuu. Five young men and their guide are headed to Ottawa in support of the Idle no More movement and also to show that the youth of Eeyou Istchee still have a strong culture.
