Survivors' tears burned in sacred fire

Many tears were shed as former students, parents and others shared their stories at the First Cree Conference on Residential Schools in Val d'Or, March 5 to 7th. The tissues used to wipe away the tears were carefully collected in baskets to be burned in a fire. Ernie Herodier from Chisasbi is not a residential school survivor but was at the conference to provide moral support. In this interview with Melissa Natachequan, he explains that the tears signify a cleansing process for past hurts and pain.
