Winschgaoug Mistissini council responds to petition Feb 28, 2013 | 6:40The Community Wellness Department of Mistissini wants the Band Council to create full-time jobs for cell guards at their local police station. Jane Blacksmith is the director of community wellness. She says a revision of how people are detained at the police station is needed to keep everyone safe. The Mistissini band council discussed the petition on February 26 and decided to move forward with the suggestion. Joshua Loon spoke with Deputy Chief John S. Matoush.

Winschgaoug Survivors' tears burned in sacred fire Mar 7, 2013 | 7:35Many tears were shed as former students, parents and others shared their stories at the First Cree Conference on Residential Schools in Val d'Or, March 5 to 7th. The tissues used to wipe away the tears were carefully collected in baskets to be burned in a fire. Ernie Herodier from Chisasbi is not a residential school survivor but was at the conference to provide moral support. In this interview with Melissa Natachequan, he explains that the tears signify a cleansing process for past hurts and pain.
