WAM Nov 17-18 Greg Malone

The question of how exactly Newfoundland became the 10th province of Canada still has the power to intrigue. In his new book, Don't tell the Newfoundlanders, Greg Malone maked the case for it having been done through connivance, mendcity and abuse. For four years Greg has pored over thousands of once top-secret documents that have been released in recent decades.... Most notably - but certainly not limited to those of Paul Bridle, a senior civil servant in Ottawa who worked on the Newfoundland file. Greg Malone stopped by to talk about Don't Tell the Newfoundlanders.

WAM wam aPRIL 14-15 Robert Chafe Apr 13, 2012 | 6:43It's safe to say that Lanier Phillips' life had two distinct chapters. Before St. Lawrence. And after St. lawrence. His story that has become part of us. A man shipwrecked in a winter storm off the coast of Newfoundland forty years ago. A black man whose relationship to white people had been built on the subservience they were subjected to in 1940's America. Last winter Artistic Fraud Theatre group turned the Lanier Phillips story into a play that delighted and moved audiences at the LSPU Hall. Now the play is set to open in Toronto next week. I caught up with playwright Robert Chafe in rehearsals there.
