Ice Storm Memories - January 1998 Web2

It was 15 years ago this week that a severe ice storm knocked power off in Quebec and Ontario. It left millions in the dark... and the cold. Electricity was off for more than a week in many areas. Here at CBC Radio on PEI, we talked about what we could do to help. Pat Martel suggested a battery drive. He called the mayors of two small towns that were hardest hit... one in Quebec and one in Ontario. And both mayors said send as many batteries as possible... as soon as possible. And with that, Project Light Line was launched. With just 24 hours notice, Islanders across the province responded. This morning, we'll like to play some of the tape from that day in January 1998. You'll first hear from the two mayors talking to then-host Wayne Collins.
