Less Money for More Work

In the last several weeks, we've been talking about a move by Central Health to replace registered nurses in rural locations with licenced practical nurses. The nurses union has come out in opposition to the plan. They say LPNs don't have as much training and patient welfare is at risk. Central Health denies that, saying LPNs are actually capable of doing more than they're doing now. One thing is certain amidst all the back and forth on this issue - LPNs make less money than RNs. Carol Furlong is the president of NAPE, the union representing LPNs.
