WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

CBC is the strongest media brand in Canada, known for its wide range of programming that informs, enlightens and entertains. CBC Radio One has a long history of producing relevant, creative and uniquely Canadian content to listeners. CBC Radio One’s New Programs department continues in that tradition.

Some Guiding Principles for New Programs:

  • Excellence
  • Diversity
  • Inventiveness

So, what are we looking for? New Programs that are:

  • Groundbreaking
  • Smart
  • Engaging
  • Bold and Audacious
  • Forward Looking
  • Fresh and Surprising
  • As is the case with all CBC programming, new radio and audio programs must strive for editorial excellence. Full stop.
  • We’re looking for talent: new personalities and producers who have unique ideas and demonstrated skills in audio storytelling and broadcast production, and people who are motivated, self-starters and creative.
  • We’re seeking diversity: programs that complement our existing radio lineup and introduce new perspectives, voices, and topics of conversation, and talent that’s as ethnically, culturally and geographically diverse as the audiences we serve.
  • Bold, inventive ideas are a must: audacious and informed content that pushes boundaries and evades formula. From rich sound design to stripped down storytelling to robust digital content, originality is a must.

We are always on the lookout for fresh, high-quality and innovative ideas for our traditional platform (ie. terrestrial radio programs), as well as exclusively digital programming (ie. podcasts).

What aren’t we interested in? Programming that:

  • Mimics content that already exists - on CBC Radio or elsewhere.
  • For podcast pitches, due to copyright issues, we are less interested in pitches with a strong musical component.

Think you’ve got a great idea for a radio show or podcast?  Take a look through our pitch guide, and consider submitting a proposal.
