Sept. 24, 6:43 p.m. - Disability Issues Children and adults with disabilities are a minority group on Prince Edward Island and are often the brunt of government's cost cutting measures with little regard for quality of life issues. Some of government's policies treat the disabled unfairly and in some cases may be discriminatory. The PEI Government signed the "In Unison" document with the Federal Government committing both governments to support people with disabilities in their own communities. However, our Provincial Government is not fulfilling its responsibility to provide adequate resources so that quality and comprehensive services can be provided. The lack of appropriate Government supports and services in the Community will perpetuate the continued institionalization of our children and adults with disabilities on PEI. Who will stand up and support this minority group on PEI? The
