Riding Profile: The northwestern tip of P.E.I. is traditionally a fishing area, but the area is perhaps now better known for its wind energy research site at North Cape. North Cape recently began producing electricity commercially. A new visitor’s centre was launched there in the summer of 2003.

The major centre in the riding is Tignish (pop. 831).

Political History: Gail Shea ended over 30 years of Liberal domination in the communites of Tignish, DeBlois, Skinners Pond, Nail Pond, Peterville, Greenmount when she was elected 2000.
