The top P.E.I. stories of 2012

For the first part of 2012 Islanders were gripped by the remarkable recovery of Shayna Conway, the sole survivor of a tragic shooting in Alberta at the end of 2011.

As we moved into spring, government budget season, attentions turned to austerity measures being brought in at both the provincial and federal levels.

Come summer attentions turned to lighter topics: television, and a surprising sexual innuendo in a new promotional campaign for oysters. Perhaps most memorable was Jared Connaughton's experience at the London Olympics.

The year ended with the surprise announcement by Olive Crane that she was stepping down as leader of the provincial Progressive Conservatives.
