RUSSIA'S PRIME SUSPECT

Monday December 10, 2007 at 10pm ET/PT on CBC Newsworld

Russia's Prime Suspect is a film about present day Russia, through the prism of a single exceptional character Andrei Lugovoi, the former KGB operative and multimillionaire who was charged with the murder in the poisoning death of Alexander Litvinenko.  Lugovoi is enigmatic, charismatic and cryptic and is Britain's most wanted man. Using remarkable access, journalist Mark Franchetti gives viewers an unprecedented opportunity to form their own opinion as to whether Lugovoi is really guilty of murdering Litvinenko.

Through Lugovoi, Russia's Prime Suspect reveals the hidden world of modern Russia; its power, wealth, politics and business.  In the run up to parliamentary elections in mid December, this BBC documentary follows Lugovoi as he pursues his new political ambitions, to become a Russian MP.  Along the way it allows a unique insight into the sort of Russia that is likely to emerge in the post-Putin era, a country once again bullishly self confident and determined to reassert its standing in the world.
