There’s never been a first daughter quite like her.  As Assistant to the President -- an official role created especially for her -- Ivanka Trump is part of her father’s trusted inner circle. A former model and business woman, she’s the Trump card that many believe helped Trump get elected. So just how much political influence does she wield?

Ivanka Trump: 30 Things You Didn’t Know About America’s First Daughter

Melania Trump may be America’s First Lady, but Ivanka Trump is the one who makes headlines. While Melania stayed behind in New York, Ivanka moved to Washington and got an office in the West Wing. Her husband Jared Kushner is one of the president’s closest confidants and has one of the most powerful jobs in the White House as Trump’s Special Advisor. Trump’s presidency, more than any other, is a family affair. But is Ivanka the one with the real power?

She’s a controversial figure. Unelected and with no political experience she represents her father on foreign trips, sits side by side with the President at meetings with Prime Ministers, and listens in on calls to heads of state. She’s also been accused of using her dad’s job to promote her own brand. Why does Donald Trump hold so much faith in his daughter and what does Ivanka believe in?

Ivanka Trump: America’s Real First Lady? examines the roots of the special closeness between Trump and his eldest daughter. The only daughter from Trump’s marriage to Czech model Ivana Trump, Ivanka became closer to her father after her parents messy and public divorce. After a stint at modelling and then business school, she rose to become Executive Vice President of Development and Acquisitions with the Trump Corporation. With her dad’s flair for self-promotion and the Trump name, she built up her own fortune selling a line of clothing and accessories. Before her father’s campaign to be president, she was best known as a reality TV star, having starred alongside her father in The Apprentice.

A mother of three children, Ivanka has portrayed herself as a champion of working women, authoring two books on the subject. Some credit her with pushing the President for better deals for working women. She was given a key role in drafting Trump’s childcare policies, which include paid maternity leave.

Ivanka’s good looks and poise have helped soften her father’s image and she’s been used to his political advantage. She’s been called his best surrogate, giving liberals hope that there may be a moderating influence inside the White House. Some say he couldn’t have been elected without her; he seems to know that she’s his secret weapon. And yet, with the trust of her father, Ivanka has a forum and the opportunity to promote her own causes. Could she one day become America’s first female president -- a cleaned up, more refined version of her father?
