21 of the Best Songs About Parenthood from the Last 20 Years

Jul 19, 2018

There is no greater inspiration for music than love, and that includes the love a parent has for their child. Over the decades there have been a ton of gorgeous tributes to kids — kids musicians have loved, kids musicians have lost and kids musicians have never even met.

We polled friends, scoured the web and asked all of you to share your favourite songs about parenthood from the last 20 years (because there were simply too many good ones if we went farther back than that).

No matter the genre, no matter the artist, each of these songs demonstrates the same thing — we all love our babies a heck of a lot. And that's something to sing about.

PLUS: We built a playlist with most of these songs (plus a few extras) on Spotify. Listen here

But instead I chose to use my heart

I Hope You Dance, Lee Ann Womack (2000)

The first things that she took from me were selfishness and sleep
She broke a thousand heirlooms I was never meant to keep
She filled my life with colour, canceled plans, and trashed my car
But none of that was ever who we are
