The Very Good Adventures of Yam Roll in Happy Kingdom is an
entertaining account of the lovestruck sushi superhero, Yam Roll, a
good-natured yet misguided, cowboy-clad, taxi-driving piece of tempura
yam maki, who resides in a land called "Happy Kingdom". Featuring a kooky cast of animated sushi-inspired characters, Yam Roll is the creation of Vancouver artist Jon Izen, Jono Howard and Dan Sioui. Originally from Vancouver, Izen is renowned in animation and alternative art circles.
In 2005, the dynamic trio of Izen, Howard and Sioui teamed up with March Entertainment to produce a short
Yam Roll episode for CBC's animated idol-type competition,
Maple Shorts. The short ended up winning the competition. A sushi superhero was born.
