Dorothy Diaries #3

It's Friday and you know what that means? You don't? That's okay we'll tell you! It's time for another installment of the Nikon Dorothy Diaries!

Ever wonder where our Dorothys go when they're not being Dorothy? Us too! So we asked Colleen, Julia, Stephanie and Jennifer to use their Nikon 1's to take some photos of their humble new home - affectionately dubbed The Dorothy Mansion. All photos in the gallery below were taken by our Dorothys. Have a look and enjoy!

But wait that's not all! We've got more diary entries for you too, dear Munchkins. This time we get the scoop on some of our Dorothys favourite musicals - here's what they said.

Stephanie on 'Wicked'...

'I would have to say that 'Wicked' is by far one of my favourites. I love the fact that it's a spinoff of 'The Wizard of Oz'; the storyline is very clever. Also, I can definitely say that it has some of the best music out there, I could listen to the soundtrack all day long! The first time I saw it was at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa. I immediately fell in love! It came back to the NAC this past summer and I saw it a second time. It was even better than the first. I wanted to get on stage with the cast! It would such a blast to play Elphaba! All in all, 'Wicked' just really hits home for me, it's about 'Defying Gravity' and the music is phenomenal. It's definitely my favourite musical.'

Julia on her Top 3 musicals...

'It's hard to choose favourites, but I have to say my top 3 classics are 'Cats', Les 'Miserables', and 'Hairspray'. They're all so different and amazing in their own ways. 'Cats' is so magical and captivating. I played Griddlebone once and although it wasn't the biggest part I loved doing it! And I saw 'Les Miserables' in the West End this summer with Danielle Hope as Eponine and it was so well put together. The music always gives me goosebumps. Finally, 'Hairspray' is such a feel good musical that has such a meaningful message and the music just makes me wanna get up and dance!'

Jennifer on her Top 3...

'I really have an inexplicable passion for musical theatre, I'm madly in love with it and I have many favourite musicals. 'The Wizard of Oz' is my all-time favourite, but my other two are 'Beauty and the Beast' and 'Mary Poppins'. I think they're both so much fun and so timeless.'

Colleen on 'Les Miserables'...

'Les Miserables' has got to be my favourite. The music is absolutely beautiful, and I love the fact that the whole story is told without any speaking parts. It reminds me of opera, because of how it's written, it's so epic. I've always been very interested in history, and I love how the music tells the story of the uprisings and revolution in France. I actually played Jean Valjean in Grade 12. This tends to raise eyebrows because most people don't realize I went to an all-girls private school my entire life. Out of all the roles I've played, that one was definitely the most life-changing. It taught me perseverance and passion.'
