Outfront

A few words of thanks.

Like Blanche Dubois, Outfront has always depended on the kindness of strangers.  Kindness and trust from those who wrote us with their close-to-the-heart stories.  Kindness and generosity from those who told their stories on the air.   Kindness and loyalty from you the listener.   You shared our triumphs and stayed with us when we took a wrong turn.

Thanks to all.

Outfront succeeded for two reasons.   When you give a person the microphone to record his or her own story, what usually comes out is authentic.  It’s real.  Partner that person with an exceptional and empathetic producer, and you get a story that is well told.   Sometimes, you get radio that sings.

- Neil Sandell, Senior Producer

Outfront: Questions Answered

I heard that Outfront has been cancelled.  When is the last show?

Production of new shows ended on June 26, 2009.   Over the summer Outfront will heard Monday to Friday at 8:43 pm; 9:13 NT.  We’ve programmed 50 of our favorite shows from the past.   You can find the schedule after the FAQ.

How long was Outfront on the air?

The first Outfront was broadcast on January 16, 1998.

Is there anywhere I can listen to old episodes?

Outfront will continue to air on Sirius Satellite Radio 137 twice each weekday.
- at 1:45 pm ET, 10:45 am PT after Between the Covers
- at 3:45 am ET, 12:45 am PT after Between the Covers

Many episodes are available on the Outfront website in Past Shows

What will happen to the website and the audio posted on it?

Most of the episodes online are in the RealAudio, a format that is becoming obsolete.  So, sooner or later those files will no longer be available.  Whether those files would be converted to another format and made available is the subject of ongoing discussion.

I have not received payment for my work.  Who should I contact?

Send an email to Peter Christiani who manages the program’s finances.  Peter.christiani@cbc.ca.  Copy your email to the producer you worked with.

I wish to write a letter about the cancellation of Outfront.  To whom should I address it?

The Executive Director of English Radio is Denise Donlon. Denise.donlon@cbc.ca   The Program Director is Chris Boyce.  Chris.boyce@cbc.ca The CBC is a Crown corporation which receives most of its funding from a parliamentary grant.  The Hon James Moore is the Minister of Canadian Heritage, and the  minister responsible for CBC.  moorej@parl.gc.ca

I would to broadcast or podcast an episode of Outfront.  Who should I contact?

CBC is eager to license Outfront episodes.  Contact Leslie Peck, Manager of International Sales.  Her email address is leslie.peck@cbc.ca  .  It is helpful if you can identify the episode and date of broadcast on CBC.

Where can I contact the Outfront producers?

Their email addresses at CBC remain the same.  The Outfront program email address will no longer be monitored.

I would like a copy of a show.

Unfortunately this is not possible as there is no staff to make the copy and ship it.
