The Human Library - Books on Books
He embraced religion. She changed her gender. And theirs are just two of sixty stories you'll find in our Human Library collection. The Human Library happens Sat, Jan 28th in six spots across the city. Including the War Museum, and five Ottawa Public Library branches.
Between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m, you can check out a Human Book for a one-on-one conversation. Over at the Cumberland public library, you'll find Angus Smith filed under the title "Reform Jew." And in Stittsville, you'll find Catherine Purdie under the title Transgender. They both joined Robyn, who'll be at the Main branch, in studio.

She met with Ginette Messier the volunteer wig fitter at the General Hospital's Cancer Centre, and cancer patient Katherine Moynahan getting a new hairdo.

Human Library - A mother and child reunion
In 2009, Scheida Prince left Haiti in a hurry after receiving daily death threats and two men attempted to kidnap her five-year-old son. Prince arrived in Ottawa as a refugee. And on Saturday, January 28th, she'll share some of her life experiences at the Human Library. Here's why she left Haiti.

Protecting your noggin' on the toboggan. Dr. Michael Vassilyadi is a neurosurgeon at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario. He recently co-authored a study on different types of helmets kids can wear. The study showed not all winter helmets are equal when it comes to tobogganing.

Staff Sergeant Kal Ghadban heads-up the Street Crime Unit/Break & Enter Team with the Ottawa Police. But on Saturday, January 28th, he'll also be a Police Officer Book in the Human Library. He'll be stationed at the Stittsville Public Library between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. You can have a one-on-one conversation with Staff Sergeant Ghadban about his more than 20-years of experiences in policing.

Syria
A state-run media report out of Syria says the country's President Bashar al-Assad has granted a general amnesty for all crimes committed during the ten-month uprising. It would even apply to soldiers who deserted the Syrian army - providing they turn themselves in before the end of the month. Human Library
Ottawa's Human Library project is a new concept, instead of borrowing books, library users borrow "people". On Saturday January 28th people here in Ottawa will be able to "check out" a human book. This project is a joint venture between the Ottawa Public Library, the Canadian War Museum and the C-B-C. The concept began twelve years ago in Denmark. Daniel Alfredsson
Today is the deadline for hockey fans to vote in the players they want to see lacing up for the All Star Game. Six of the 30 all-star players are being chosen by the public. And five Ottawa Senators players are on the ballot to be part of the starting line-up. They are: Daniel Alfredsson, Jason Spezza, Milan Michalek, Erik Karlsson and Sergei Gonchar. Sudan Mission
RCMP and police officers from across the country are setting off to Sudan next week as part of a U-N mission...but before they head that way, they'll train here in Ottawa. Robyn Bresnahan spoke to Rob Hagarty this morning. He's one of the officers who will fly to Juba, South Sudan's capital next week.
