Join us over the next 30 days as we tap into the World Cup spirit in Ottawa.

Contributors include:

giacomo-panico-180px.jpgGiacomo Panico

With a name like that, it's no surprise which team is in his heart. In fact, Giacomo's first World Cup memory is sitting in front of a tiny black and white tv in 1982, cheering with his father as Italy reigned supreme. His soccer heart may be spoken for, but he's also a realist and won't let his azzurri coloured glasses impair his judgement. Giacomo still likes to watch a game with his papa, and has been known to peruse opponent's penalty box areas in local amateur leagues.

Ignacio - 180.jpgIgnacio Estefanell

Ignacio Estefanell is the Publisher and Editor-In-Chief of Kickabout, Ottawa's Local Soccer Magazine. Since coming to Canada, at the age of eight, he's been playing soccer in our Nation's Capital. He started Kickabout in 2008 to celebrate the game's diversity and to help further its continued local development.

Vuvuzelas? Check.
Ten kids from Ottawa's Lycée Claudel school are ready for South Africa! They're heading there to represent Canada in a mini World Cup, but their trip will be about more than just playing soccer. It's about meeting other students from across the world, it's about collecting used soccer equipment from clubs in Ottawa and taking it to South Africa, it's about meeting with kids in Soweto and presenting them with the donated equipment. And yes, it's also about experiencing World Cup games in brand new stadiums, potentially meeting the French National team and whatever else may come their way.  Marcello Britto, a grade seven student at Lycée Claudel, and Catherine Guévin Nicoloff, a grade six student,                                                                          will blog throughout the team's adventure.

Alex - 180.JPGAlex Hughes

Alex Hughes is a contributor to Kickabout magazine, and a Johnny-come-lately to soccer whose greatest football moment is yet to come.  She's looking forward to watching many World Cup matches with her various recreational teams over a pint of beer and a plate of nachos.  Vuvuzelas are optional.

Ashifa - 180.JPGAshifa Kassam

Last World Cup, Ashifa Kassam wandered through South America; celebrating Ecuador's surprise success, consoling Brazilians after their early exit from the tournament and biting her nails next to Argentines as their team played in the quarter-finals.  This time around, she's staying in Ottawa for the World Cup, determined to shed light on Ottawa's booming soccer community and uncover the many ways that Canada's capital is connected to the World Cup.
